The Second Coming of Christ – Short Preaching Outline
The Second Coming of Christ
Texts: Acts 1:9–11; 1 Thessalonians 4:13–18; 2 Thessalonians 1:6–10; 2 Peter 3:10
Hook: Men live as though history has no expiration date, but the New Testament will not let us play games with the return of Christ.
Thesis: The second coming of Christ is one visible, final event that gathers the faithful, raises the dead, judges the rebel, and ends this world.
I. Christ Returns Visibly and Publicly
- Look at Acts 1:9–11 where the exact same Jesus who ascended will return.
- Hear the undeniable shout and trumpet of God in 1 Thessalonians 4:16.
- Reject the false doctrine of a secret rapture, a postponed kingdom, or a hidden phase.
- Stop waiting for a prophetic schedule and start waiting for the Savior.
II. Christ Returns for Final Judgment and Resurrection
- Gather the faithful to Himself just as He promised in John 14:1–3.
- Raise the dead because tombs cannot stay closed when the King speaks.
- Punish the disobedient with flaming fire according to 2 Thessalonians 1:8.
- Know that you will meet Him in eternal relief or sudden ruin, never in neutral.
III. Christ’s Return Demands Immediate Readiness
- Expect a sudden arrival that shatters the present order like a thief in the night.
- Understand that God’s delayed judgment is pure mercy, not permission to keep sinning.
- Pursue holy conduct instead of an obsession with political headlines.
- Stop gambling with borrowed time before your excuses burn up.
Conclusion Drive
Jesus Christ is coming again without warning. He will not come in stages, and He will not arrive in secret. He comes to empty the graves, gather His church, and end the world.
Invitation Drive
Sinner, the day of the Lord brings terror to the disobedient. Hear the gospel, believe on Christ, repent of your rebellion, confess His name, and be baptized for the remission of your sins right now. Erring saint, repent before the trumpet sounds and mercy runs out.
Preacher Ed’s Note: The false teachers want to give them charts. Give them the King. Preach it hard.
